Pope Benedict XVI received the bishops of Angola and Sao Tomé on Saturday, who are here in Rome for their ad limina visits. In greeting the bishops, the Holy Father recalled his March, 2009 visit to Luanda, during which he said he was able to celebrate Jesus Christ in the midst of a people who never tire of seeking to love and serve with generosity and joy. Pope Benedict also used the occasion to explain that his recent decision to proclaim the Year of Faith from October 2012 to November 2013, was so that the whole Church might demonstrate to all a more beautiful and credible face, that the face of the Lord might show through the Church more clearly.

ROME (KerkNet/VIS) – Paus Benedictus XVI heeft vanmiddag maandag 17 oktober het Motu proprio ‘Porta fidei’ gepubliceerd. Daarin kondigt hij een ‘Jaar van het Geloof’ af dat ingaat op 11 oktober 2012, de 50ste verjaardag van de start van het Tweede Vaticaans Concilie, en loopt tot 24 november 2013. Het pauselijke document bevat de krachtlijnen van het initiatief en spreekt de hoop uit dat het zou bijdragen tot een authentieke en hernieuwde bekering tot de Heer. Gelovigen worden aangespoord hun geloofskennis te verdiepen en openlijk te getuigen van hun geloof. De paus schrijft nog dat het Tweede Vaticaans Concilie een kracht kan zijn voor de vernieuwing van de katholieke Kerk. Het Motu proprio ‘Porta fidei’ telt 18 bladzijden. Een Motu proprio is een wetgevend document met kerkjuridische draagkracht dat door de paus zelf (‘motu proprio’ is Latijn voor ‘uit eigen beweging’) wordt afgekondigd. In die zin is het evenwaardig aan een pauselijk decreet.
